Valentine’s yoga poses are the perfect way to emphasize self care, love for others, and family health. The ten poses included in this pack are easy for children to do and include loving and thankful messages. You can the cards out, color them or leave them blank, and laminate them or cover them in contact paper to make them more durable. Here are some ideas for how you and your family can have fun with this free set of Valentine’s yoga poses.

Ways to use the valentine’s yoga poses cards

Simon Says

This is a great option for a party. Have the kids look at all the cards and try to remember the names of each of the poses. It might be a good idea for them to do each pose while saying the name of it so they can practice.

Then, you gather them all and make a pile of cards. Call out one of the poses by name and see who does it correctly. Or, just call out usual Simon Says directions, like “pat your head” or “stamp your left foot” while you do it, too. Then, mix in the yoga poses. The kids who do the wrong pose sit down until there is one kid left.

Shuffle the Exercise Routine

This idea works well for a group or for a family. Basically, you use the cards as movements in an exercise routine. Shuffle the cards to vary the order in which you do the poses. Decide in advance how long you will hold each pose, which may depend on the age and ability of your children.

When the Music Stops

This is a game in which you place the cards on the floor about two feet apart in a random pattern. When you start the music, the kids walk or jump from one card to the next until the music stops. Whatever card they are on (or near) when the music stops, that is the pose that they do.

Mirror Me

This activity requires two sets of Valentine’s yoga poses. Children pair up. Each child has their own set of cards that they shuffled. The pairs of children will face each other and each child in the pair will draw a card and do their pose. When they both draw the same pose, they will try to mirror each other instead of doing it exactly as it appears on the card.

When we mirror other people’s behaviors it is called the chameleon effect. It is believed to have a positive effect on social relationships. Consciously practicing this through this activity can help build children’s brain power.
